Covey's 5th Birthday

October 2nd, 2011

Covey turned 5 years old this year! We started out the day by eating pumpkin bread and chocolate milk. Then since it was General conference Sunday we cuddled up with blankets to listen to the wonderful talks. In the middle of Conference we laid a sheet out on the floor of the office and the boys got to have a picnic and eat Macaroni and Cheese. They thought it was pretty fun.

Covey decided that he wanted to have his friends Katie Bagley and Akira Babb over for Cake and ice cream after conference to celebrate. He also got to help pick out his cake this year. We went to the baking isle and he got to pick any cake mix. He walked around and looked and then grabbed a box of "Triple Chocolate Cake" - he must take after us :) Covey also picked out what color he wanted his frosting (blue frosting with green lettering), and told me what to write on the cake. The cake said "Covey is 5". For his birthday this year we got him an erector set he can work on with Daddy.

Don't Trust Yourself

September 16th, 20111

We went up to Memphis to visit Grandma Barb a little over a week ago. While we were there we introduced the kids to the movie "Mary Poppins". Now that is one of Covey's favorite movies. While talking to Daddy about what he liked the most he listed off her talking to herself in the mirror. Needless to say Daddy and Covey decided to make their own mirror movie. Enjoy!!

Singing and More...

March 21, 2011

Covey is learning so much. He surprised me the other day – Out of the blue he sang the ABC’s all the way through by himself. I never hear him sing, and then to hear him sing that… it was great! He has been going around the house singing more songs ever since, but it is mainly the ABC’s and “Choo Choo the Big Train” that he sings the most.

He is also becoming super caring. The other day I mentioned that I was not feeling well. Covey looked at me and told me “You should go lay down a bit. I bring you water to drink, and help you feel all better.” I didn’t go and lay down, but he still brought me glasses of water off and on all morning. Hey – at least I stayed hydrated.

He did like me singing the ABC song in Spanish quite a lot :)

November update

November 5th, 2010

Covey is growing up so fast lately. I can not believe how big he is getting, Or that he is 4 years old now. He is my helper around the house. That is super nice especially when I throw my back out, because he can pick things up off the floor so I don't have to bend over. He will help clean up... as long as I let him vacuum. (I think I can handle that :) He now loves to have me read to him as well. Although he wants me to read chapter books, not picture books. Right now I think his favorite is the "Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle" books. His speech classes are going great, and his speech has grown exponentially over the summer. It amazes us how much he can say and understand already. Right now Covey is wanting to learn how to write letters, so everyday he asks to practice writing his name etc. He knows how to spell his name by himself, but he does not know how to write the letters yet without help.

Here are some recent pictures of Covey:

Covey wanted me to take a picture of him and "baby duck". Poppy (my Dad) gave Covey baby duck when Covey was just a week old. It is now Covey's favorite stuffed animal.

Covey has stolen my sunglasses. He wants to wear them when we play outside "because sun hurt my eyes". I think he looks pretty cute!

Cycle King!

July 31st, 2010

Many of you have seen Ab Rollers in the stores. We have one at our house (That we never use) that Covey loves. He runs around the house everyday hunched over holding onto the handles and running as fast as he can while rolling it on the floor. That in and of its self is not that amusing, except for when he talks about it... When he talks about using it he says that he is exercising. However he can not pronounce exercising correctly, it comes out sounding exactly like "Cycle King". It is even more fun to listen to him run around with the ab roller yelling "Mommy - I Cycle King!" (Even though that is really him saying I'm exercising).

Starting to Learn My Colors

July 27th, 2010

Covey is finally starting to learn his colors. He was showing me that yesterday as we were running errands. He was sitting in his carseat and every time we would go though an intersection he would yell from the backseat either "Green Means GO", or "Red Means Stop". It cracked me up. I was even more amazed when we went into Hobby Lobby to look at fabric and he picked up some ribbon as asked "Mommy what is this?". I looked down and replied "Thats ribbon hunny, put it back please". He looked at me and said "NO... it is ORANGE ribbon". I was shocked! He has never know that color by name before. It was great!!! He still has problems with other colors like purple and pink, but it seems like he is getting pretty good at Green, Blue, Red, and Orange. My little boy is growing up.

My Trip to the Dentist

July 8th, 2010

Covey went to the dentist for his first cleaning today. I was nervous that he was going to be scared, so I started talking to him about the dentist 2 weeks before his actual appointment. I also looked up a video on YouTube to show him that showed him the types of tools the dentist uses when they clean your teeth.

Covey did great!!! He didn't act scared or nervous once. He sat back and opened his mouth wide. He seemed a little nervous when the hygenist went to put the paper around his neck... but once I compaired it to a baby bib he just laughed and relaxed. He then sat and let the hygenist do her job, giggling as she cleaned his teeth. His favorite part of the cleaning seemed to be having water sprayed in his mouth, so he could suck it up with the suction thing.

Here is Covey with the hygenist as we waited for the dentist to come and check his teeth. While we waited, she gave him stickers and also made him a baloon out of a latex glove. He was so happy.

Covey was also great when the dentist came in to check his teeth. He though the glasses were "silly". He seemed very proud of himself after being to the dentist. He got to go to the store on the way home and pick out a small package of hotwheels on the way home for being such a good boy. Here is Covey being checked by the dentist.

I'm a Big Brother Again!

June 4th, 2010

Covey is absolutly loving his little sister Jerrica. He enjoys sitting next to us on the couch and very gently rubbing her head, or just plain watching her. He will go and sit next to her and talk to her to try and calm her down if she cries. There has been a couple times that my heart has just melted when I ask him if he loves his little sister... He responds that he does not love her - he loves her "a lot".

Box Fun!

April 30th, 2010

Today we got our new infant carseat to use when baby Jerrica is born. I don't know who is more excited... me for getting a package in the mail, or Covey for big cardboard box it came in. Within 15 minutes of taking the carseat out of the box, Covey had the box on it's side on our diningroom floor playing hide and seek in it - oh and trying to get Daisy (the dog) to hide with him.

Soon after that complaining set in if Xander got anywhere close to "his" box. I found it really cute to watch Covey drag that box around the house from room to room as he played, eventually ending up in his bedroom. I have to admit it brought back memories of a childrens book I used to love to read when I was little called "Christina Katerina and the Box" by Patricia Lee Gauch.

Spiderman

February 20th, 2010

Covey did not have very many pairs of pajamas in size 3T, so recently I went out and bought a pattern to make him some new ones. His favorite pajamas are his new Spiderman P.J.'s. He actually has 2 pairs of the pants, because when I was cutting out the fabric I made a mistake and in order to fix it, I had to cut 2 of everything. If he could Covey would wear his Spiderman pants, all day - everyday. I also bought a plain colored shirt from Hobby lobby, and appliqued spiderman onto it, so that he has a complete matching set. He absolutly loves it!!!

January Update

January 2010

Covey is very excited about a change that is happening this year for him... Covey went into the school at the end of last year for some speech assesment testing. He has been having a bit of trouble talking so that people can understand him. At first Covey refused to talk to the speach therapists, and we had to go back later on for a second try. The second time I brought Covey to the school, he opened up and talked to the therapists.

After reviewing the test scores the school decided that Covey qualifies for some speech classes. He is super excited that this year he get to "go to school". He will be going to school 1 day a week for a small 30 minute class. He has had one class already and loved it! They played games and worked on the "K" sound. Now he often says "Mama, I want go school".

Covey Goes Flying

December 2009

This month Covey and Mommy got to go flying with Grandpa Horrocks. Grandpa is working on getting his pilots license, and we got to go flying with him while he practiced touch downs and take offs. Covey was scared to death of the plane in the begining. As Grandpa was checking everyting on the plane before we even got in, Covey was clinging to Mommy going "I scared". When we got into the plane he cried and cried. (Note the pictures) By the time Grandpa took off the first time Covey had stopped crying and was fine. Now Covey want to go flying again, and this time bring Daddy with.

Battle Scars!

March 2009

Covey normally enjoys going to bed, but one night mom and dad heard a "bump in the night" followed shrieking. It was no ghost, but it WAS Covey falling off his bed and smashing his face on the drawer handle beneath the bed. He was pretty upset, so even though it was 2:00am we let him watch an episode of Go Diego, Go! and he calmed down a half hour later. Poor Kid!

Covington's 2nd Birthday

October 2008

Covey is now 2 years old!!! On saturday after General Conference we had a small birthday celebration with just Mommy, Daddy, and Grandpa Horrocks. Covey was really excited. We had apple cinnamen muffins because we were going to have cake on sunday. Covey did try to blow out the candles on his muffin, but was not very sucessful. He enjoyed watching the flames, and then giggled quite a bit when Daddy blew out the candles.

For his birthday Covey got a card from his Great Grandma & Grandpa Horrocks. Inside of the card Covey got a two dollar bill. He was excited to have money. (They learn so quick huh?) He walked around holding that bill for at least 10 minutes. From Mommy and Daddy Covey got 2 large cars to play with. From Grandma and Grandpa Horrocks he got another car and a bus to play with, along with some mini M&M's to eat. Also Grandma and Grandpa gave the family a toy horse to use while our kids are young. Covey has loved riding on that horse so much.

On Sunday we celebrated Covey's birthday over at his friend Akira's house. Covey and Akira are 4 days apart in age, and so her mom made a train cake, for them to both share. It was very cute!!! Covey still hasn't grasped the concept of blowing out the candles, so Akira helped him.

After singing Happy Birthday and blowing out the candles, Akira wanted to give Covey a little kiss, but he wanted nothing to do with that... he just wanted the cake. (Smile)

Dandelion Fun

September 2008

Covey loves to go outside and play. He is always bringing me his shoes, and socks asking to go out. Then if I tell him that we arn't going outside right that minute, he will start bring me every pair of my own shoes, trying to get me to give in. Just reciently he has started going around the yard and picking danelions and blowing their seeds all over. It is really cute, because he will sit and gigle afterwards.

Learning to eat like Mommy & Daddy

July 2008

Covey is learning to eat like an adult. He is finally grasping the concept of using a spoon but is only successful when it comes to eating oatmeal, because it sticks so well. Today he got to eat grilled Cheese, and Tomato Soup with us at dinner. He had a lot of fun dipping his grilled cheese, and he also really enjoyed the bath after he was done.

Summer Fun

May 2008

In may we had a company party that we went to over at one of Brandt's co-workers house. It was a lot of fun. They had slip-n-slides and little pools and water slides for the kids to play on. Covey wasn't as fond of all the water (I think it was because of all the other kids that were there) but her loved to play on their Giant trampoline. He also really enjoyed drinking from a water bottle all by himself.

Covey decided to take the lid off of the trash can in his bedroom, and play with it. He got the lid open and put it over his head, but could not figure out how to get it off.
